Again in the 1970s, when I still left a position at the Mississauga Periods to function for the Toronto Authentic Estate Board, I was tasked with composing a farewell column to readers. A veteran reporter at our levels of competition had just prepared a similar column, in which he thanked dozens of popular nearby and national politicians and superstars. But I had only been doing the job at the Occasions for four months and did not have an amazing list of contacts to thank.

So I wrote that I could not thank every person I labored with at the Moments, not for the reason that I didn’t have the place but mainly because I hadn’t nonetheless acquired all their names. To make exciting of the other columnist’s name-dropping, I thanked Mick Jagger and Margaret Trudeau, due to the fact “as considerably as I know, they have by no means said a terrible thing about me.”

Perfectly, now it is time to say goodbye to REM’s visitors and the shoe is on the other foot. The list of persons I’d like to thank is too lengthy to contain everybody who helped me form the editorial content of REM for the past 33 a long time. But listed here are some who made a considerable impression.

It starts off with the dozens of freelance journalists REM hired above the a long time. Susan Doran experienced a tale in the pretty initially issue of REM and has created hundreds of articles or blog posts for us considering that then, almost never missing a month. Kathy Bevan was REM’s ace reporter for quite a few a long time, chasing down tales even when the subjects did not want to be interviewed. A person year throughout the Western Link conference, she cornered a genuine estate board EO in an elevator when he attempted to escape her thoughts.

A lot of many thanks also to Toby Welch, author of more than 100 REM characteristics, and other very long-time freelancers Diane Slawych, Mario Toneguzzi, Danny Kucharsky, Yvonne Dick, Don Procter, Sohini Bhattacharya, Dennis McCloskey, Connie Adair, Steve Maxwell, Myles Shane, Tony Palermo and the late Lloyd Manning.

REM wouldn’t have attained the trustworthiness it has in the serious estate industry with out the contributions of numerous existing and previous Realtors, who crammed our internet pages with guidance and observations, and did not shy absent from controversy.

Marty Douglas wrote much more than 250 columns, originally termed Western Perspectives and then Metes & Bounds.

Barry Lebow, who served REM score a contract to produce a magazine for a mortgage loan broker’s association, wrote dozens of columns and more recently commenced manufacturing videos that he shared with REM audience.

Dan St. Yves, a former authentic estate agent in Kelowna, has been crafting a month to month humour column for REM due to the fact 2000, hardly ever missing a thirty day period.

Carolyne has delivered as many Recipes for Realtors columns as we could use. She is also the most prolific commenter on all REM tales, featuring her take on the industry’s hottest news. (And many thanks also to our other most recurrent commenters, Brian Martindale and PED.)

I also owe a debt of gratitude to Ross Wilson, Debbie Hanlon, Stan Albert, Ted Greenhough, Mark Brodsky, Chris Seepe, Aiman Attar, Peggy Blair, Aaron at TRES Labs and the late Albert Teichner. They all furnished a prosperity of data for Realtors – click on the Columnists and Information for Brokers tabs on this site and check out their tales, and those of several other visitor columnists.

The most-examine tales on REM have been persistently all those working with lawful troubles, and we ended up blessed with many outstanding legal writers. They involve Natalka Falcomer, Don Lapowich, Mark Weisleder, Martin Rumack, Bob Aaron, Shaneka Shaw Taylor, James Cook dinner and 1 of REM’s biggest supporters, Avi Rosen. A lot of many thanks to you all.

Our print magazine experienced a resident photographer – Marko Shark, who then turned the job over to his son Elijah. Many thanks for all the fantastic illustrations or photos fellas. And many thanks to Craig Hodge and Darla Furlani, who furnished REM cover pictures from the West Coast.

Thanks to all those who offered REM with their video written content: David Greenspan, Richard Robbins, Toni Sing and Jenny Wun, Shawn Bell, Nicole Attias and a lot of many others.

To all people who sent me a story about a new business employ the service of or charitable endeavour in their group, thank you. Thanks to all the boards and associations who despatched us editorial contributions and distributed the print edition of REM to their members. Many thanks to the staff at CREA, who supported us in the course of the many years, even though they frequently didn’t treatment for what we wrote and have been annoyed that we refused to put Real estate agent in capital letters.

And at last (yes, I know the tunes is enjoying and they want me to wind this up), a word about the people at REM. Art director Liz Mackin experienced fantastic persistence in placing jointly most of the print troubles around the several years. Thanks also to graphic designers Shawn Kelly, Yee Truong and Eilidh Harding.

It was great functioning with “Uncle Barry” Holmes, and afterwards profits director Dennis Rock. When Dennis retired, his daughter Amanda came on board and instantly became the most well-known REM staffer at trade shows.

Thanks also to tricky-working output and distribution supervisor Mila Purcell (who obtained me hooked on Brother Jack McDuff) and output co-ordinator Judy Cupsky.

I wrote about Heino Molls and the start of REM when he retired. We shed Heino in 2019 and I have believed about him just about every working day because.

William Molls took above as REM’s publisher and CEO and has manufactured a valiant exertion to retain it heading all through the pandemic, hardly ever straying from our philosophy of furnishing high quality editorial material and not marketing out, when it would have been effortless to do so. Many thanks for all your support, Will. Your dad would be happy.

All right, that’s ample, apart from for a personal plug: despite the fact that I will be “mostly retired”,  I’ll carry on creating about Canadian actual estate in my column at Realty Moments. And I appear ahead to viewing what a new team will do with REM.
