Arena’s steel joists are a big architectural win

By high university requirements, the new gymnasium at Rogers Substantial School in Rogers, Arkansas, is big—architecturally and conceptually. The $sixteen.five million Mountie Arena will accommodate 2,300 in an expansive, arena-like facility with seating on all four sides and the corners of the court. 

To achieve the vision of architects Hight Jackson Associates, 185-foot-lengthy, twelve-foot-deep double-pitched metal joists had been utilised to support acoustical dovetail roof deck soaring 46 ft off the floor. The venture was no slam dunk. It confronted three primary demands: match the architectural design and style of the existing university, generate the grand arena environment, and management the noise created during levels of competition.
